The App quit on me when uploading a photo. When I returned to the app, I tried to upload from my film roll, but it quits everytime I touch the photo album.

Very good idea, but European plants, too, please!!!!

Just missed the rest of the world.

Great app, But It would be great if the database includes other species and regions.

Fix Games please!

Great idea, but Games unfortunately very buggy

Great idea!

Looking forward to updates, and more species across north America. This is a VERY cool idea, and a great way to use the iPhone in an educational fun way! Keep the updates coming and Ill give a 5 star

Looks promising.

This is a great idea. There are lots of good close-up photos of species details. Unfortunately, I have not yet been successful in getting an ID. I picked a species I could see was already in the database but uploading the photo would not work. Repeated tries failed. It would be better if it could operate without the on-line connection. Otherwise it is only useful in my yard where I already know the trees. Most of the nearby National Park is without cell coverage. Until this app can ID leaf photos from the in-app database without needing to go on-line it will not be useful. A field guide needs to work "in the field", which means, mostly off-line.

Tank you ! This is a great Free App. Im a log scaler for a sawmill in Québec.

Nice idea but it has not worked for me

The main thing I dont like is that you need to pick the leaf and put on a White background. I like to just snap something without picking it. Even when I did put it on something White it did not work.

Leafsnap

This app is very helpful with identifying species of trees

This is great and very helpful

I wish something like this had come along sooner! Im doing some soil field work in an forested park and its helpful for me to be able to identify the trees near the sampling sites. There are a few I havent been able to identify using this but Im sure we can expect updates.

Do not bother

Out of five common leaves it never uploaded one. Canada west

Excellent App

In southern Ontario, Canada, this app works very well and it has been a great aid in our childrens botany studies. The app uploads the leaf image easily if placed on a white or light cream colored background. We have even used the back of one of the kids who was wearing a white top since we didnt want to collect the leaf and wait until we got home to find out the name of the tree. Considering it has only trees commonly found in NY city and Washington DC, I am very impressed that until now, Leafsnap not been able to identify only 2 leaves. Excellent educational app. Im spreading the word. Cant wait until more is added to the data base. Games are a very cool way of learning the trees names, etc. Adding more to the database, especially more trees common to Southern Canada will rate 5 stars.

Decent app

Heard Jay Leno mention an app that could recognize a tree by a snapshot of a leaf. Well... This is it and it works. Until now, I was trying to get the answer from "experts".

Good idea but. . .

Only came close on 1 of 5 common leaves.

Keep tuning

Its great that this is now a reality but it needs work. It seems to have an eastern bias. I was surprised that all of the common conifers of the northwest are not in the database.

Did the job

First several attempts to upload failed but when it did work results were great. Thanks from Toronto, Canada

Good concept

It worked with a few leaves but needs a larger database for sure. Im in Ontario Canada and it recognized very common leaves only. Remember to bring a large enough piece of white paper with you also. It wont let you upload your picture for recognition unless the complete background is white. Works on common leaves in the north east area here in Ontario. ( and its free)

Needs heavy work.

Constant server issues, a lack of Canadian Species Identification, inability to recognize simple Species such as Apricot. Suggestion: allow users to upload their own photos as well as information about species they find. I.e. I take a picture of an Apricot, it is not in your data base so I add this species to your list along with all relevant data. Do this and Id pay for the app!

Species

5 stars once more trees are added. Western species are in need of some attention. It would be interesting to see this app expand and allow a wider range of plants to be identified. Amazing idea though, cant wait to see more updates and keep up the good work!
