Firstly it doesnt work out in the field, you have to safely carry your specimens back where you can snap them on a white background. Also, out of the 6 specimens I brought home, it only recognized one! Its database doesnt include enough Western trees. Still think its worth a try!

The potential this app has is monumental! Leafsnap could become a tool to identify any and all plantlife, maybe even more, like assessing the health/age of a plant! Its a beautiful marriage of technology and nature, I can see this application changing a lot of things. It could be used to make caring for plants easy for people who otherwise would never have given plants a second look! Bringing plants into cities! It could be used in education, it could be utilized to assist farmers, to feed starving nations! Why not throw in full 3D rotatable scans of all your leaves, seeds, flowers etc.! Make full use of the new hardware and software in iPhone 4S! Bring the app to iPad 2! Branch out, make this global! The people who realize its potential would also be willing to pay. All you have to do is not give up, believe in this app and yourself/yourselves, bring this amazing idea to full fruition! Id be more than willing to purchase this app were it more full. And if thats what it would take, by all means.

Did not recognize any leaves I tried... Errors with server....poll error...not on white paper even though it was...needs alot of improvements

The "fixed" version still crashes a lot after snapping. And it isnt that helpful getting 24 possible identifications for a leaf! Even when I snapped the trees in my back yard that I KNOW the identity of, Id get 24 possibilities and often the correct one was way down the list. Great idea though, keep working on it! And doing one for wildflowers would be a great idea too!

Tested it more than a dozen times (on a white background as instructed) & not once did it work.

In the north east, "white cedar" usually refers to eastern white cedar (thuja occidentalis) not Atlantic white cedar (chamaecyparis thyoides).

I love the idea of this app, and when I can get it to work, its great - but its often very hard to get it to work (the Snap It feature, I mean). As others have noted, it frequently insists that your picture is not a leaf on a white background even though it is - the faintest trace of shadow, dust, anything seems to throw it off, so you gave to try and get your leaf to lie absolutely flat. Plus, sometimes it cant connect to the server, and theres no option to retry - you have to take your photo all over again. Also, the fact that its location-awareness is exclusively American is kind of annoying. Given that tree species dont just stop at the border, how hard could it be to allow Canadians to enter our actual location instead if having to pretend were in New York or something? Overall, though, a useful and appealing app - I just hope that these issues will be addressed in future versions.

... Its a bit stupid that it gives you 24-25 different trees for every leaves! How can you figure out witch tree it is if you get all those choices? This is ridiculous, and two stars is generous for this app.

Crashes too much!!!

This app is Has a lot of potential! I live the game to test your knowledge of trees. The only 2 catches : if you get the answer wrong it boots you out and you have to launch the app again. Also, after you play the game enough you know which plants it wants you to pick because they keep coming up again and again. Tremendous potential though

Not impressed that the snap it function doesnt work

Crashes constantly to the point its not actually usable.

This "app" is doo doo! It does not work and is a jerk. I almost want to flush my phone down the toilet and I love my fricking phone! A hex on Leafsnaps creator :p

I love the concept and cannot wait for it to be refined. Crashes constantly which is really unfortunate. Also, it would be great to be able to take leafsnaps in the field. Having to place a leaf on white paper doesnt help me on a hike when Im curious about the tree in front of me.

Crashes and the leaves dont even look like the clear picture I took.

I love the tree games, but they keep kicking me out of the app. I hope you can fix this soon.

The identification of the pictures work well! I like this application but I would like to see a integration of all territories of Canada too! Im from Quebec in Canada. Keep innovate!

Was great, now useless. Please fix.

I use this app frequently, and it has really helped me out with many flower ids only issue is that its sometimes difficult to upload the pics. But def worth using!
